Prime Color This Week

impatien-cosmic-orangeColor sells, as the saying goes, so running low on color generally means you will be running low on customers as well. This is especially true now, since warmer weather has come over the area lately. Nothing stirs the trowel of a gardener like a few warm days right after a cold, hard winter.

Fortunately, we are shipping bright, colorful material this week in prime condition. To combat the big box stores, build a competitive bench with our popular cultivars, plus something a little special.

Most of these plants can handle the cooler days and nights of April, but be sure to protect them if frost threatens your forecast. Here is a list of our prime color, ready for retail:

BEGONIAS

begonias

Our wax begonias have full color in the 1203 flats, both green leaf and bronze leaf varieties. All shades are available: white, pink and red. In addition, the 6-inch and 8-inch pots have sized up very nicely and their blooms are just opening now.

IMPATIENS BASKETS

impatiens

We have all colors sitting tall in their baskets offering reliable, all-around color coverage. Double impatiens varieties are also ready, and we have some very interesting bi-color blooms as well.

IMPATIENS FLATS

All colors are open and available. We believe the market will still want impatiens this year, so we have grown our full production run in all sizes. Please note that our credit policies on impatiens have changed.

REIGER BEGONIA BASKETS

reiger

The royalty of the Begonia world—they usually sell out fast each year so order them quickly. Yellow is very showy and the red, orange, pink and white ones are ready as well.

COMBO BASKETS

We have a great selection of custom mixes—all developed in-house. Here is a list of the ones that look especially nice:

NEW GUINEA IMPATIENS

ng-imp

Again, we have a full list of colors in bloom right now. If you are running shy on impatiens baskets, use these as substitutes.

LOBULARIA BASKETS

lobularia

These baskets are overflowing balls of white.

PORTULACA

portluca

Also known as the moss rose, this crop is blooming like crazy. It’s tender—a bit more so than the other material listed here. It requires more attention in April.

COLEUS

coleus

Another crop in great color, this will need to be brought inside on cooler nights.
