Rio Grande™ Portulaca

For hanging baskets that last through the hot days of high summer, go with the big, bold blooms of the Rio Grande™ series. These vivid, tropical-looking flowers reach up to 2 inches across, covering the plants with a mass of color. As you can see, the contrasting bright yellow centers make them all the more eye-catching. 

Notice the luster of the succulent dark green leaves. Portulaca shines in the sun and stands up to summer heat and drought conditions, cranking out lots of vibrant blooms all season long. Plants are low growing, reaching only 3–4 inches high with a spread of about 10–12 inches and a nice trailing habit.

In addition to hanging baskets, Rio Grande™portulaca makes a great low-maintenance groundcover and adds texture to beds and containers. It’s a popular choice for rock gardens and edging, plus it attracts butterflies and hummingbirds—always a bonus.
