Zinnia ‘Pop Art Golden and Red’
A unique bicolor zinnia
We have eye-catching plants on the brain after last week’s Cartwheel gerbera, so this week we’d like to introduce you to a unique bicolor zinnia for spring: ‘Pop Art Golden and Red’. Each golden, dahlia-type flower is flecked with vivid red, Jackson Pollack-style—a work of art unto itself.
Each flower is different
You’d be hard-pressed to find any two of these golden blooms that are alike. They do have some traits in common, however: all are large and fully double on tall, strong stems. Flowers are long-lasting and there are lots of them—they keep the abstract art show going all summer long.
Dramatic at the back of a sunny border
For all its showiness, this zinnia is easy to grow. It’s known for its disease-resistance and can reach up to 3 feet tall—a suitable choice for the back of a sunny border. We like to use it as a dramatic backdrop for shorter, less flashy varieties down front. An all-zinnia border is an interesting way to go, too, and a group planting serves as a brilliant focal point in the landscape.
Brightly streaked blooms make a statement in containers
‘Pop Art Golden and Red’ makes a statement in containers as well, alone or as a thriller in a larger combination. Both classic and novelty zinnias mix easily with the brightly streaked blooms—for bold splashes of color to liven up patios or decks.
Long-lasting and bee-friendly
This selection makes a long-lasting and intriguing cut flower. It’s also attractive to butterflies and bees, including our native rusty patched bumble bee, that has recently been added to the Endangered Species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. We can help to boost its numbers by using bee-friendly plants such as this one in our designs whenever possible.
Zinnia ‘Pop Art Golden and Red’ is available in the 6-inch pot.
