Mum Combos for Halloween
Pumpkin Spice Mix in the 12-inch Hanging Basket
With Halloween decorations already entering the stores, be sure to pick up some October-themed mum combos in planters and hanging baskets. We have some festive mixes in colors that have been put together with Halloween in mind, for some lighthearted charm that contrasts nicely with traditional dark and spooky décor elements. Early Halloween displays tend to center around warm harvest colors because the weather is still nice, and these combos make cheery autumn accents to instantly brighten a porch, patio, or deck.
Princettia® Poinsettias
This year we’re offering a new, unique alternative to the traditional red poinsettia—the Princettia® series. As you can see, these hybrids come in vibrant—and in some cases electric—shades of pink. In addition, Princettia® lays claim to the only true white poinsettia on the market, with none of the typical yellowing we’re accustomed to on standard white varieties.
Lisianthus ‘Sapphire Blue Chip’
‘Sapphire Blue Chip’ out-blooms all the others
Look at all the big 2-inch blooms—these little plants are practically covered with them. Yet somehow they hold up and keep their tidy, mounded appearance—that’s why we grow the Sapphire series. It out-blooms all the others—as a matter of fact, it’s probably the heaviest blooming lisianthus series on the market.
Distinctive Hearthside Planters
For a truly unique spin on Christmas décor we recommend our distinctive Hearthside combo planter. The Hearthside has become a tradition here over the years—it’s a Diefenbacher exclusive. Each one is a unique design, full of personality—just like the designers themselves.
If you’re new to the Hearthside combo, it comes in a 24-inch rectangular planter—long and thin. We set several of our vibrant poinsettias down the center, then get creative with assorted foliage plants in complementary shades of silver and green. We even get a little avant-garde and spray juncus grass silver for vertical interest.
Each hearthside is designed high and showy with individual components chosen to add elegance and high-end polish. Use one wherever you need a stately focal point in a retail display, home, or business. This planter is also suitable for churches because the arrangement is large enough to fill a huge space without getting lost.
Hearthside combos come in any color of poinsettia we sell but classic red remains the most popular—the green and silver accents make it pop. Keep in mind that our white and art-style poinsettias make for stunning combinations as well. This year, we are having fun mixing in ornamental peppers like "Chili Chili" and 'Calico' among the Euphorbia and Dusty Miller we like to use.
Dianthus ‘Ideal Select™ White Fire’
Fiery magenta radiates out into the white
We’ve added a new color to our line of Ideal Select dianthus for early spring: ‘White Fire’. Notice the pretty mottling on these lacy-edged flowers, with the bright magenta centers radiating out into the white. It’s a cool effect—kind of like a bouquet of little pinwheels.
Ideal Select is one of our favorite series for providing brilliant color even under tough conditions. These dianthus prefer the cooler weather of early spring but are both heat and drought tolerant as well. You might recall that we plant them when we plant pansies for the best flowering performance.
‘White Fire’ looks striking planted en masse in a sunny area of the landscape. It also adds charm and visual interest to containers and rock gardens. We find that deadheading keeps the pretty blooms coming.
This variety is available in the 1203 flat.
