Spring 2015
Helenium ‘Dakota Gold’
Bright and tidy ‘Dakota Gold’
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this week with spring following right behind it, so we have a wee bit of green and gold for you in the spirit of the season. Our tidy new helenium sports lots of golden yellow daisies from midsummer to frost on neat mounds of fine, narrow foliage. It keeps its emerald green color all season long.
‘Dakota Gold’ has a compact, spreading habit that fills a space efficiently. We use it as edging or in containers—when we need a pot o’ gold accent for a sunny patio or deck. It’s tough and fast-growing, standing up to summer heat and humidity while thriving in the cool weather of early fall as well.
Three New Sweet Peppers
A pepper for the royalty—‘Baron’
Believe it or not, the first day of spring has arrived, so let’s turn our thoughts to shoveling dirt instead of snow, specifically in the vegetable garden. Now, when it comes to vegetables, peppers rank second only to tomatoes so it’s important to offer a diverse selection.
Cottage Garden Bowls for 2017
A Bowlful of color to cure the winter doldrums
Although we’ve had some mild days already, many customers are still apprehensive about purchasing color so early on in the season. True, the nights can remain chilly all the way into April, but once March rolls around we’re all looking for a little brightness to lead us out of the winter blahs. This quest for early, easy, cool-tolerant color led us to create one of our signature—and most popular—products: the Cottage Garden Bowl.
Yellow Pansies and Mixes
Warm yellow naturally draws attention
We have a couple of different yellow pansy mixes—which one you choose depends on the effect you are trying to achieve in the landscape. Let’s take a look at them today, along with the popular ‘Matrix™ Yellow’ pansy.
Zinnia ‘Pop Art Golden and Red’
A unique bicolor zinnia
We have eye-catching plants on the brain after last week’s Cartwheel gerbera, so this week we’d like to introduce you to a unique bicolor zinnia for spring: ‘Pop Art Golden and Red’. Each golden, dahlia-type flower is flecked with vivid red, Jackson Pollack-style—a work of art unto itself.
